Basic Tips for online buying and shopping

Banking Online Safely

Before you're able to bank online, you usually need to visit the bank who will talk you through using the site, and also set up their systems so you're able to log in. You'll be sent a username and later, a password for the banking website. This is confidential information, and must be kept private at all times. With this information, anyone is able to log in to your bank account. It's also a good idea to change the password regularly, and not to a password that is easily remembered. If you used common every-day words as a password, it would mean those around you would be able to guess the password. Once you log in to the banking system for the first time, you may be asked to change your password.

Before starting any transactions, it's important to know your way around the system, so you may need to read some leaflets, or look for the online help (usually identified by a question mark icon, or a plain link to the help). As a suggestion, we'd still advise you to print off any proof of transactions with any identification numbers on it. This is a precaution in case of the bank not procecssing the transaction, or some other error.

Online Shopping Safety
